OGO

OGO

This morning as I was watching Squawk Box on CNBC, the featured guest was David Novak, former YUM! CEO.

He has launched an initiative called OGO (O GREAT One) Enterprises, a mission to turn the world onto the power of recognition. OGO is a fun and heartfelt way to recognize and inspire the amazing people in your life.

This made me start to think about the amazing and awesome people in my life. Have I done enough to recognize their awesomeness? I have two wonderful parents that I owe my existence to and while I tell them "I Love You" on a regular basis, is that enough or should I be doing more?

My husband is another person I need to better recognize and appreciate his awesomeness. He inspires me to be a better person on a daily basis although I am usually kicking and screaming along the way! I once read that the one thing men want is - RESPECT. They would rather have respect than love. Women on the other hand are different…we would rather have LOVE than respect. It's not that we don't want both, but if forced to choose, then we choose love. This makes for a very Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus kind of scenario. Often spouses have very different opinions and approaches to a problem and it's important to recognize the other's contribution and awesomeness, even if it differs from your own.

In our professional lives, it's important to recognize those who are making contributions. We all thrive on our boss telling us that we did a great job. We walk straighter, feel lighter and are more positive.

So why is it so hard for us to recognize others and appreciate their awesomeness…be it colleagues, teammates, spouses, parents, siblings, children, etc…? Just think what a happier place the world would be if we were not stingy with our compliments and accolades!

I guess that's what David Novak and OGO Enterprises is on a mission to do…change the world…one compliment at a time!
